Au lendemain d’une pause de près de deux ans au cours de laquelle elle donne naissance à son fils René-Charles, Céline lance A New Day Has Come, un album balancé, qui tout en restant en continuité avec l’ensemble de son œuvre, réussit à explorer de nouveaux horizons en proposant des sonorités modernes et actuelles.
Le premier single, A New Day Has Come, composé par Aldo Nova et Stephan Moccio et coréalisé par Walter Afanasieff, est le parfait exemple de ce renouveau dans la continuité et donne le ton à l’album.
Forte de son travail avec le producteur Max Martin sur la chanson That’s The Way It Is, la collaboration avec la “filière suédoise” continue de bonne façon avec la chanson d’ouverture I’m Alive, produite par le duo Anders Bagge-Peer Astrom (Madonna, Ace of Base, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez). Ces nouveaux collaborateurs sauront donner un vent de fraîcheur au répertoire de Céline. Ils apporteront aussi leur touche sur Have You Ever Been in Love et Sorry for Love.
A New Day Has Come propose aussi des titres à tendance plus RnB avec « Rain, Tax (It's Inevitable) », « When The Wrong One Loves You Right » et « Superlove » (chanson seulement disponible sur l’édition internationale).
Avec Aùn Existe Amor, Céline reprend la chanson phare de son repertoire francophone, L’amour existe encore, en espagnol. L’album compte aussi deux adaptations de chansons françaises, Ten Days (Tomber) de Gérald de Palmas et The Greatest Reward (L’envie d'aimer) de Pascal Obispo.
Dans un registre complètement différent, Céline s’attaque avec succès à deux grands classiques de blues et de jazz : At Last, popularisé par Etta James et Nature Boy, le classique de Nat King Cole. La chanson Goodbye’s (The Saddest Word), produite et écrite par le célèbre producteur Robert John “Mutt” Lange (AC-DC, Def Leppard, Shania Twain, Foreigner) est une touchante ballade évoquant l’amour au-delà de la mort entre une mère et sa fille. Toutefois la pièce de résistance demeure I Surrender, titre écrit par Louis Biancaniello et Sam Watters, qui donne toute la mesure des capacités vocales extraordinaires de Céline.
L’album sera numéro 1 dans plus de 12 pays et plusieurs des titres de l’album seront intégrés un an plus tard au spectacle A New Day… de Céline, présenté au Colosseum du Caesars Palace à Las Vegas.
